By massaging your friend or living partner and let him or her do the same to you, you will both get emotionally closer to each other, and both get several health benefits. Massaging will benefit the mental state of the person you work on, the muscular condition, the blood circulation and the lymph drainage. However, what you want to achieve, will determine the exact technique you use.

MASSAGING ACROSS THE MUSCLE FIBRES

This type of massage is very good for relaxing tense muscles and a stressed mind.

You perform this massage by rubbing or gripping across the direction of the muscle fibres or across tendons. You take one area after the other. You begin by massaging each area lightly, superficially and slowly to warm up, and then proceed by massaging deeper, firmer and more swiftly.

According to the size and conditions of the area you treat, you can use different types of manipulation. You can use a couple of fingers at a small area, or to reach deep into a tense point. You can rub with all your finger tips or with the palm of your hand at greater areas. To get a harder effect, you can use your finger knuckles.

MASSAGE ALONG THE MUSCLE FIBRES

This type of massage will give the following effects: Stiffness will be reduced or cured, and the muscles will gain in mobility. The muscles will get better blood supply and drainage. The muscles will get a better drainage of tissue fluids into the lymph system, and thereby swollen muscles will normalize. These effects will in turn make tired muscles faster regain good condition.

By this massage you stroke along the direction of the muscle fibres, and always in the direction of the blood stream towards the heart.

Also now you take one area after the other, but try to reach the whole length of a muscle or muscle group at each stroke. Also by this massage, you begin massaging at each area lightly, superficially and slowly to warm up, and then proceed by massaging deeper, firmer and somewhat faster.

Also by this longitudinal massage, you can press down and stroke with your finger tips, with all your fingers, or grip around a muscle or muscle group with your fingers.

MASSAGE WITH AN ELECTRIC MASSAGER

Most electric massage devices are vibrating up and down. This vibration mostly gives the same effect as the massage across the muscle fibres. If you also stroke with the device head along the muscle in the direction of the blood stream towards the heart, you will simultaneously also achieve the effects of longitudinal massage.

COMBINING THE MASSAGE WITH STRETCHING

The effects of the massage can be increased by also stretching the limbs and body parts of the person you work on. Stretch in the natural movement directions of the limb or body parts until you reach some resistance. Do not stretch hard to go beyond the resistance point. However, by holding the limb some time at the resistance point will often cause the limb to relax, and then you can go some way further.

HOW HARD SHOULD YOU PERFORM THE MASSAGE?

Tired and stiff muscles are often tender and aching. Working at a tender point will always cause some temporal pain. However, if you use the right degree of firmness, the effect of the massage should cause an immediate release of pain and tenderness when you have finished working at a point. You should never work so hard that the pain is felt nearly unbearable, or so hard that pain remains after the massage is finished. If you do so, you can hurt or aggravate already existing tissue damage.

To achieve the right firmness you should monitor the reactions of the person you work at and listen to his comments. You should also never perform a massage on an area with a distinct inflammation or a distinct injury.

USE OF MASSAGE OILS

By applying a massage oil or ointment at the area you work at, you ease the massage work and increase the effects of the massage. Your fingers glide more easily upon the skin covering the area. The blood supply of the skin and muscles will be stimulated. You get a sensual and exciting scent on the area and in the air. Ingredients in the oil will ameliorate muscular ache and pain. According to the composition of the massage oil, there will be various stimulating effects upon the muscles, for example faster regeneration of tired or hurt muscle tissue.

MASSAGING FOR MUTUAL JOY AND PLEASURE

You can use each of the two main techniques, but you let the pleasure of the person you massage decide the technique, the area you massage and the firmness of the massage. Usually gently touching and caressing will be the right manner.

Also your own pleasure shall decide. Do not work so hard that you get tired out yourself, and the person that you give the massage should be willing to repay you by doing the same favour to you.

For a long time we have been told to beware of the sun-rays and protect ourselves from the impact of sun rays upon our skin. The truth is probably not as bad and simple. Sunlight gives both benefits, and effects harm by exaggerated exposure.

The effects of sunlight upon the skin are due to the ultra-violet light. These light rays are generally divided in three kinds according to wavelength, UVA with longest wavelength and lest energy in each light quantum, UVB of shorter wavelength, and UVC of shortest wavelength and highest energy.

THE BENEFITS OF THE SUN-RAYS

If the exposure to sun light is moderate, the benefits outnumber the dangers. First of all sunshine has a good effect upon the mental health and well-being, both due to the visible light and to the warming effect.

The UVA rays in the sunlight stimulate the skin to produce vitamin D. This vitamin is necessary for the normal composition, growth and regeneration of bone tissue. By too low levels of vitamin D in the body, the bones tend to loose calcium and get thinner and weaker. Newer findings suggest that many people do not get enough of this vitamin through the diet or do not absorb enough from the intestines, and need this stimulation to get good enough levels of vitamin D.

Newer findings also suggest that moderate amount of sunshine does not promote the occurrence of skin cancer. On the contrary, in moderate amounts, exposure to sunshine seems to help prevent cancers of several types, especially breast cancer, colon cancer and prostate cancer.

The browning effect is the benefit that most people go for when engaging in sun bath. This effect comes from the UVA rays stimulating the melanocytes in the skin to produce more of the brown pigment – melanin. The increased amount of melanin will protect the skin against the harms of sun-rays, and make you tolerate greater amounts of sun before harmful effects occur. The sun rays also stimulate the upper layer of the skin to grow thicker, and this makes the skin more robust against damage. As long as this thickening is moderate, the thickening is a good effect.

THE DANGERS OF THE SUN-RAYS

The most visible danger of exaggerated sun exposure is the burning effect caused by the UVB rays. The effect is mostly due to immune cells in the skin releasing histamine. Histamine then causes blood vessels to dilate and also cause other symptoms of acute inflammation. Some cells will also be injured by the sunlight to such extend that they die, causing the upper layer of the skin to flake away.

Exaggerated exposure to sun can cause brown spots – liver-spots. Furthermore it can cause the cancer type called basal cell carcinoma. These effects are caused both from the UVA and UVB rays. This type of cancer looks like brown flakes or brown spots, and may be difficult to distinguish from liver-spots. However, this kind of cancer is little malignant, and is in many cases just a cosmetic problem.

But the UVA and UVB rays from too much sun exposure can also cause malignant melanoma. This cancer consists of melanocyte cells been transformed into cancer cell. Malignant melanoma often evolves from birth marks. This cancer can remain small for a long time, but can also spread and develop very rapidly and swiftly evolve into a serious disease. In its initial stages, the cancer looks like an irregularly shaped and abnormally or irregularly coloured birthmark. People having been exposed too much sun and often been sunburned form an early age, are in special risk for malignant melanoma.

Traditionally skin cancers were thought to be caused by the UVB rays, but newer findings suggest that the whole ultraviolet spectre participates in causing cancers. Therefore using solariums that gives off only UVA rays is not safe from cancer risk.

Too much sun exposure for a long time will increase the speed of skin aging and cause permanent changes in the skin, due to the effects of UVB rays. The wrinkles will multiply and aggravate. Also the blood vessels in the skin tend to become permanently dilated and areas of the skin will often get an abnormal or irregular thickness, some places too thin and other places too thick. Due to the widened blood vessels, the skin will be permanently red.

UVC rays are normally filtered out from by the ozone layer in the upper atmosphere. Nowadays this layer is wakened over certain areas in certain times. These rays are the most dangerous and easily cause cancer and other types of skin damage.

HOW TO AVOID THE DANGERS AND GET MOST OF THE BENEFITS

The best way to get just enough sun exposure to get the benefits, but not so much to suffer the harms caused by sun rays, is just to expose your skin for the sun some time, and then cover the skin by clothes.

The time recommended for naked exposure varies considerably. A person with brown skin can take much more than a pale person. The same is true about a person with thick skin. As you get used to the sun each year, you will gradually get browner and also tolerate more. If you take sunbath for the first time in the year, and you have not yet get used to the sun, 10-15 minutes may be enough.

However, often you want to expose your skin to the sun rays longer than an unprotected skin can tolerate, and then you have to use some topical sun protection. Sun balms are found with protection from 3 to 30. The protection factor is supposed to tell how many times longer you can be in the sunshine with the balm on, than without the balm. Be aware that the real protection factor may be less than that written on the bottle.

A balm with the factor 20 does not always really have that factor. If you know you can tolerate 0.5 hours exposure without protection, do not think that you really will tolerate 10 hours exposure with a balm of factor 20 on. The balm must also be renewed several times during the time you expose yourself for the sun. That is especially true if you take swims. The balm must neither be too old.

The face is the body part that it is most important to protect against the sun, since the face does not have any clothes on, and accordingly gets longest sun exposure.

Some kinds of nutrition seem to make the skin more robust against the impact from sun rays. It is for example wise to eat much fish and use olive oil in the diet. You should also attend to the news about the ozone layer, and always protect your skin in periods with weakened ozone layer.

The Neem tree is sacred in India because of its life-protecting properties. It is a powerful cleansing herb renowned for its ability to purify both the inside and outside of the body. It is an extremely bitter herb with powerful detoxifying properties. Its green leaves are full of cleansing chlorophyll and it acts as an invaluable skin and blood cleanser. It is very effective for normalising gut bacteria and reducing any imbalances that can cause bloating, discomfort and skin outbreaks.

Myths abound concerning the healing properties of Neem; its curative nature is said to have begun when a drop of nectar (amrita) fell on to it from the cup of immortality. Its bitter principle indicates its use in inflammations of the skin and digestive tract.

Common Name

Neem (E), Nim (H), Margosa (E)

Latin Name

Azadirachta indica â?? Folium, Semen, Cortex, Resin (Meliaceae)

Sanskrit

Nimba

Bio-medical Action

Notes

â?¢ Neem thrives as a large tree in well-drained soil all over India at up to 1000m. It is a tender tree not surviving in temperate climates where there is excessive rainfall.
â?¢ Often confused with Melia azadirachta (this is known as Mahanimba in Ayurveda). This is a tree with very similar properties that can survive in hardier climates.
â?¢ Used in the famous panchtiktagrita, a medicated ghee incorporating five bitter herbs used for inflammation in the skin, muscles and deeper tissues.
â?¢ Also a very infective insecticide/fungicide in the garden; spray an infusion on the plant for excellent organic results.
â?¢ It is a very strong herb. As with all very bitter and concentrated flavours it should only be used short term at high doses. Use for up to a month maximum. However, if used at a low dose the it can be used for longer.

Why use Herbal Remedies?

Herbal remedies have been used for centuries for their healing and therapeutic properties. Different herbs are used in different cultures as a popular alternative to modern medicine. Herbs for Life focuses on traditional Ayurvedic herbs and the benefits they offer for common health conditions.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is the ancient Indian philosophy of health and wellbeing. It means the â??science of living wiselyâ??. Using herbal treatments is fundamental to Ayurveda for staying at optimum health. Itâ??s also an integral part of the relationship between humans and nature.

Ayurveda is the ancient Indian philosophy of health and wellbeing. It means the â??art of living wisely.â?? In simple terms, Ayurveda is a holistic system which guides us so that we can live a healthier and more balanced lifestyle. It recognises that we are all unique and focuses on food, lifestyle, massage, yoga and herbal remedies to suit our individual make-up.

Ayurveda is timeless – it has existed for over 4000 years but yet it still applies to modern day life. The key to its longevity is because Ayurveda is logical. An early description given in the Charaka Samhita (the earliest Ayurvedic literature) written circa 150BCE-100CE says:

â??It is called ayurveda because it tells us which substances, qualities and actions are life enhancing, and which are not.â?

The wisdom of Ayurveda encourages us to take responsibility for our own health according to the different stages of our lives, the seasons, and the environment we live, work and play in. These factors all have a big impact on our health and it makes sense to adapt our lifestyle accordingly so we can continue to live in harmony with our body and stay at optimum health.

Who are Pukka?

Our unique range of organic herbal remedies and award winning teas are based on the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda â?? â??the art of living wisely.â?? We set up Pukka Herbs to make the wonders of this wisdom easily accessible to everyone.

Pukka is a Hindi word meaning â??authenticâ??, â??genuineâ?? or more colloquially â??top qualityâ??. It comes from the Sanskrit â??pakwaâ?? and this sentiment of offering the best quality organic Ayurvedic herbs and service is what we at Pukka Herbs are all about.

Those of you that are suffering from any of the various forms of eczema know how truly painful and irritating these symptoms can be. They can make you into a real eyesore that can be very distracting to others. Luckily there a number of treatment options available to suffers. Your physician can prescribe medications, ointments or lotions for your eczema. Many suffers reject out of hand homemade or over the counter treatments and tips, without even trying them. Give over the counter, homemade or alternative treatments a try. Their effectiveness just might surprise you.

Home Eczema Treatment

Very often you will find that home treatments or over the counter creams are effective for eczema. Antihistamines have been shown to reduce the effects of itching and associated inflammation. You can also get many lotions and special wraps at most pharamacies that are likely to prove effective. Providing your skin with a moisture barrier can be very helpful. You will have to be careful that the barrier cream is compatible with your skin. I have found other home treatments out there that people claim to be effective. Everything from covering the affected area with Crisco to green tea baths. Another barrier solution, coconut oil has been recommended. Putting on a barrier cream before exercising

Eating For Health
Food can be a two edged sword. Many eczema reactions can be attributed to certain foods. You may find that your body reacts with an eczema outbreak when you eat a certain type of food. Experimentation and good record keeping can show which foods that cause problems for you. On the other side of the food sword, many find that eating certain types of foods has been instrumental in improving or even curing their eczema. You can blend up many of these food remedies in your own food processor. An often used food concoction includes wheat grass, spinach, parsley, and celery. Another remedy often used is to take one tablespoon internally one of corn oil at meal times. This is said to improve other skin disorders as well.

Preventative Ideas For Home Use

A crucial part of eczema treatment is of coarse is the prevention of outbreaks. There are a few things that you can do every day to prevent eczema outbreaks. Selecting the proper mild locations, creams and soaps for your home, is a first place to start. This one action will surprise you in its contribution to reducing eczema problems. The avoidance of chemicals, harsh and mild, should be observed at all times.

When experiencing itchy episodes try to avoid the urge to scratch. This of coarse is easier said than done. Just rub genially areas of discomfort with the soft inside part of your hand. After taking a bath, gently use a towel to pat dry your skin. Apply a barrier lotion or cream to lock in the moisture.

Before you use up your doctors valuable time (and your money) investigate and implement some of the tried and true home remedies. There are an abundance of proven eczema treatments available to you. Remember that not every treatment will work for everyone. Experiment until you are happy with the results of your home eczema treatment.

What are thread veins?

Thread veins are tiny veins that appear most commonly on the cheeks, nose and legs. Small thread veins are red, but larger ones are purple in colour. They have many names, including:
spider veins
broken veins (not an accurate name, because they are not actually broken)
capillary veins
Normally, the tiny veins in the skin are invisible, but on occasions they expand and show through the skin.

What causes Thread Veins?

There are many causes of Thread Veins, over exposure to sun, pregnancy, oestrogen treatment, alcohol or prolonged standing. In certain cases Thread Veins may also be inherited. Thread veins can sometimes be a sign of rosacea, a skin condition, or can result from overuse of steroid creams. Thread veins are more obvious after mid-life, when the skin becomes thinner and loses some of its collagen. If you have large visible veins, they could be varicose veins.

Where do the Thread Veins appear?

Thread veins appear mostly on the cheeks, nose and legs.

What treatment is available for Thread Veins?

Dr. Sheill uses two treatments for Thread Veins, Veinwave and Sclerotherapy.

What happens during treatment?

Sclerotherapy involves injecting the vein with a chemical using tiny needles. This makes the walls of the vein stick together.

Veinwave involves making very fine precise, gentle punctures. A thin micro-insulated wire is gently inserted into the unwanted vein. Only tissue cells immediately adjacent to the electrode are affected.

What should I do after the procedure?

Sclerotherapy – After treatment on your legs, you will need to wear compression stockings for 1 week, the vein will disperse naturally over the following 2-3 weeks.

Veinwave – After treatment wash the area a couple of times per day and apply a soothing gel or lotion with aloe. Make-up can be applied after 24 hours.

Does the treatment hurt?

Most people cope well with thread vein treatment, but the larger the vein the more discomfort will be felt. Dr Sheill will give you a topical local anaesthetic cream to apply before starting the procedure.

How many treatments will I need and how long is each treatment?

It depends on the number of veins present. Each treatment lasts for about half an hour

Is Thread Vein removal permanent?

In most cases the same veins will not reoccur, but new veins can appear at other sites over time and require further treatment. Unfortunately, in case of some people, their body has a tendency to produce these unwanted veins and may continue to do so even after treatment.

How much does it cost?

The price varies from person to person depending on the area treated. Dr. Sheill offers treatment for Thread Veins starting from £120.

What happens during the treatment?

Dr. Sheill performs a full assessment in order to maximize the benefit of the injection. He will ask you to use certain muscles of the face to observe how they work. A short needle is used to inject the Botox in small quantities into the muscles that are creating the furrows. The discomfort is negligible.

How long does the procedure take?

A Botox injection procedure does not take long and takes 5-10 minutes. Many take it during lunch breaks.

When we lived in The island of malta, we consumed a lot of pomegranate. We actually had a tree in the garden and in fact are house was called after the pomegranate, Ta’ Rumina (in Maltese).

The pomegranate fruit is an old fruit enveloped in much history and myth, specifically in the Middle East. Pomegranate is significant in Jewish custom, since it is thought to carry 613 seeds to represent the 613 commandments in the Torah. Romans imported their pomegranates from Libya and also the Chinese talk about pomegranate as back as the Han and Sung dynasties. The Spanish conquistadors brought the pomegranate to South usa, and missionaries got it to California.

Whilst I had been residing in The united kingdom we would see them in the marketplaces, but they actually didn’t lead to a good deal of stir, in that case. More recently all that has transformed in the west. As of late it is a winner, rising to the level of a ’super food’, some thing they have constantly identified in the East. It is thought the pomegranate originated in Iran and also India.

Pomegranate Health Benefits

The pomegranate carries a leatherlike type epidermis, about the dimensions of a sizable apple, its juice is sweet and sour, is completely filled with seeds, each one of these is flanked by a see through darkish pink juice sac. It’s been reported its nutrients help to safeguard versus heart disease, cancer and many types of troubles associated with aging. Filled with Eastern assurance, it is full of anti-oxidants, vitamin c, niacin (B3), , folic acid, dietary fiber, plus more. Even green tea and also dark wine, have less value, because pomegranate has three times the anti-oxidants.

It is believed that possibly a primary reason this fruit didn’t take off sooner in the west, was the fact it is a frustrating fruit to make. You will need a bit of tolerance, but it is enjoyable, and worth the effort. It’s not like grabbing an apple which you are able to eat while you are on the run. We would have a excellent time in Malta eating them directly off the tree. It is advisable to take off the top and the bottom and score down the hard but slender epidermis with a knife, beneath is a sour membrane (you don’t eat) housing hundreds of small seeds surrounded in see through dark red sacs of fruit juice. This sour, inedible membrane supports the seeds, open up the fruit it will be in sections, invert the sections.

Since pomegranate’s score has jumped in the charts, a lot more individuals are willing to prepare it. Pomegranate is a flexible berry, superb in all sorts of salads, in your morning meal and so on. The fruit is red, but it can also be observed with primarily a yellowish epidermis that has a patch or two of pink. Pomegranates may be kept in the fridge for approximately two months, or in a cool, darkish spot for approximately 30 days. Right now California develops pomegranate in a commercial sense due to the previously mentioned pomegranate health benefits.

Grenadine, the mild syrup that’s been added to alcoholic drinks for decades, was produced from pomegranates, however currently it is not produced from the fruit.

Pure pomegranate oil is wonderful, a light effortlessly absorbed oil. It is shown to aid reduce the indicators of aging by preserving the width of the epidermal, and by motivating the life of skin fibroblast cellular material. It is these hectic tissue that produce the skin’s assisting structural fibres such as elastin and collagen. As mentioned previously pomegranate seems to have several very powerful anti-oxidants, several analysis states more in comparison with the majority of plants.

Pomegranate Health Benefits
Do NOT try a pom juice until you’ve read the pomegranate benefits…

Rudolf Weiss, the German herbalist, has approximately appealing ideas on low blood pressure. He describes it as being simply an aspect of a more deep seated conundrum. He furthermore believes with the intention of as public be inflicted with low blood pressure but thumbs down symptoms, with the intention of it does not require behavior. I sort out not recommend with the intention of this must exchange your doctor’s advice though! But I discover it appealing, as a doable complementary behavior option, to consider his check over with the intention of low blood pressure is the manufactured goods of a weak passage. Equally such, gentle herbs with the intention of support passage could be a helpful adjunct to whatever other therapy is suggested.

He stresses the underlying thing of a regulatory imbalance. And he suggests herbs like thyme, with the intention of be inflicted with a tonic effect, would be a helpful support. Particularly in era of mental or corporal stress, or with surgery, or approximately other illness with the intention of could be inflicted with diluted the body, like the bug. He does say with the intention of behavior must single be pro a restricted calculate. He makes the top with the intention of life insurance statistics indicate with the intention of public with hypotension on mean live longer than public with blood pressure in the habitual range.

Rosemary is quite a diverse herb. It is used effectively pro headaches, particularly migraine. The herbalist Michael Tierra writes with the intention of many headaches are caused by stomach problems, and with the intention of the precarious oils in thyme be inflicted with a very beneficial and kind effect on the stomach. Rosemary furthermore contains salicylic acid, which is the precursor of aspirin. Though being in sow form it doesn’t be inflicted with the long stretch feature things.

Rosemary is exceptional pro the passage, and is often prescribed by herbalists pro circulatory weakness (Fisher & Painter). The committed constituents renowned as the flavanoids are sensitivity and blood vessel tonics. So, as well as hypotension, thyme is suggested pro poor passage, hypertensive headaches, and arrhythmias.

Externally, thyme spirit is used pro rheumatic problems. It can furthermore be massaged into the sensitivity area.

Another committed constituent of thyme is Rosemary acid, which is a phenolic acid. Rosemary acid has an anti-inflammatory effect. A study found with the intention of a Rosemary training was effectual in treating allergic asthma. It has furthermore been found to suppress synovitis in mice. Synovitis is an inflammation of the lining of the joints, with swelling, which is quite awkward. It is involved in rheumatoid arthritis. Rosemary acid can furthermore prevent the initiation of prostacyclin and complement, which leads to hypotension.

Overall, this suggests with the intention of methodical investigate chains the herbalist’s uses of thyme pro hypotension, poor passage, and rheumatic problems such as rheumatoid arthritis. One conundrum has been with the intention of products which controlled thyme had quite low concentrations, although approximately supplement manufacturers be inflicted with begun to get on to a very concentrated thyme manufactured goods. Concentrations of Rosemary acid in these range from 5% to 70%. And agreed with the intention of Rosemary acid is an incredibly powerful antioxidant as well, this would get on to it a skilled scale pro preventing sensitivity disease.
